Nomination News: Some New Challengers
- Miramichi, NB - Veronique Arsenault is hoping to make the move from Liberal Party volunteer to Liberal Party candidate after returning home three years ago. No word as yet on when a nomination meeting will be held. The successful Liberal candidate will be running against first-time Conservative M.P. Tilly O'Neill-Gordon, who won the riding by a margin of 5.1% in 2008.
- Sudbury, ON - A former Vale Inco corporate relations official, one-time senior policy advisor to several cabinet ministers and long-time Liberal activist, Gary Holman, has launched his campaign to win his party's nomination. The riding is currently represented by first-time NDP M.P. Glenn Thibault, who won this northern Ontario riding in a threee-way race by a margin of 4.9% over the second place finisher and 9.8% over the third place finisher. In fact, Sudbury was the 5th closest of 15 three-way races in the last election.
- Glengarry – Prescott – Russell, ON - A reader has heard that there may be a contest for the Liberal nomination in this eastern Ontario riding. In addition to 2008 candidate Dan Boudria, party activist Maryanne Kampouris is also said to be considering a run. The riding is currently held by two-term Conservative M.P. Pierre Lemieux, who increased his margin from 0.4% in 2006 to 10.4% in 2008.
I'll be on the lookout for any french-language clippings about those meetings. Do you have nomination news to pass along? My email address is working again, so don't hesitate to pass your news along.
