Nomination News: Mississauga Rematch?
- Mississauga – Erindale, ON - The word is that former Liberal M.P. Omar Alghabra is planning to run again, and he has been maintaining a website that revisits his work from the last Parliament, and highlights his views on current issues. Alghabra lost the riding by just 397 votes in 2008 (some 1.4 votes per poll, or 0.7% of the vote) to first-time Conservative M.P. (and three-time candidate) Bob Dechert, in a case of dramatically declining turnout (from 65.5% to 56.2%) where Dechert held his raw 2006 vote. This saw the riding become the 8th closest contest in the last election. Alghabra's candidate expenses are not yet entered into the Elections Canada database, but Dechert spent some 98% of the spending limit.

Actually, Omar lost by 397 votes in the verified results, which you yourself have posted in the riding info section.
And I don't happen to think Omar posting his work from the last Parliament really impresses people, since they voted him out anyway. Please visit my blog and look up the article "Omar Alghabra needs something new," for further insight.
Hi DTMB,
Thank goodness for commenters and the self-correcting nature of the Internet. You realize that I misread it and put the number of polls (284) instead of the raw margin (397)!?! I'm fixing it up now.
Thanks!
Hi, Pundits Guide:
Please don't take it personally that I point out minor errors like that, it's just the way I am. Besides the closest margins in the last election you posted, I also memorized some other margins in other ridings, since I frequent this site and other sites which post riding results and do the math in them a lot to see who won by how much. I happened to have done the math on this riding several times and the number got stuck in my head.
Golly, I don't mind being corrected at all. It's why I have a "Report an Error on this Page" on every page. Hundreds of sets of eyes are better than one, believe me! So, thanks again, and don't hold back (just be gentle ;-)).
