Greens Hold Line on Fundraising
The party raised $211,268.53 from January to March, 2009, up slightly from $210,962.82 in the first quarter of 2008, but from considerably fewer contributors (2868 vs. 4731). The drop came in the number of contributors under $200 (down from 4595 to 2703), although the party saw a slight increase in contributors of $200 or more (161 up from 136). The proportion of funds raised from the two groups stayed roughly the same, however.
The Bloc Québécois previously reported contributions almost four times those raised in the same period a year ago. Still to have their returns posted are the Conservatives and NDP, along with the Liberal Party, who have nevertheless already told Joan Bryden of the Canadian Press that their contributions for the first quarter doubled over the same period last year.

the greens have money ? but still not really enough to do anything . 200,000 buys a good campiagn in say 3 ridings or maybe a couple of ads on tv . not really enough to change things in there favour or deliver a green mp .
Not sure I totally agree with you, Anon. I'd be a bit more concerned about a narrowing donor base though.
The Greens have had accelerated staff turnover lately. The new fundraising staffer is a rookie still getting her feet wet. The big growth in mail-lists engendered by the last election should have lead to a big increase in small first-time donors, but the reverse was true. The big donors will likely have been past small donors getting comfortable with writing cheques. IF the GPC can recover with good messages to new small donors, then the $$ flow will get onto a pretty solid growth track. Look for improvements soon.
Thanks for the insights, BGB.
