Forthcoming Bloc Nomination Meetings

I missed this release from the Bloc Québécois the other week, announcing the details of their upcoming Nomination Meetings, some of which have already occurred ...
  • Sun 19 Apr - Repentigny, QC - First-term M.P. Nicolas Dufour became the second nominated Bloc candidate (after Yves Lessard in Chambly – Borduas, QC on Friday April 16, as reported here earlier). Dufour took over the seat after the resignation of by-election winner and former Bloc M.P. Father Raymond Gravel, earning some 53% of the vote on his first run for office.
  • Fri 24 Apr - Saint-Maurice – Champlain, QC - As previously reported here, two-term Bloc M.P. Jean-Yves Laforest was expected to be renominated here last Friday night.
  • Sun 26 Apr - Argenteuil – Papineau – Mirabel, QC - The riding of the Bloc's chief organizer, four-term Bloc M.P. Mario Laframboise, renominated their M.P. this past Sunday night.
  • Sun 26 Apr - Shefford, QC - Three-term Bloc M.P. Robert Vincent was uncontested at his nomination meeting, also held this past Sunday.
... and some of which are anticipated in coming weeks ...
  • Sun 3 May - Saint-Hyacinthe – Bagot, QC - Two-term Bloc M.P. Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac is the incumbent.
  • Sun 3 May - Terrebonne – Blainville, QC - Four-term Bloc M.P. Diane Bourgeois is the incumbent here.
  • Fri 8 May - Saint-Jean, QC - Six-term Bloc M.P. Claude Bachand is the incumbent.
  • Sat 9 May - Berthier – Maskinongé, QC - Three-term Bloc M.P. Guy André is the incumbent.
  • Sun 17 May - Rosemont – La Petite-Patrie, QC - Five-term Bloc M.P. Bernard Bigras is the incumbent in this riding.
  • Wed 20 May - Louis-Hébert, QC - First-term Bloc M.P. Pascal-Pierre Paillé defeated former Conservative M.P. Luc Harvey in 2008 to return this seat to the Bloc fold.
  • Sun 24 May - Abitibi – Témiscamingue, QC - Three-term Bloc M.P. Marc Lemay currently holds the seat.
  • Fri 29 May - Saint-Bruno – Saint-Hubert, QC - Three-term Bloc M.P. Carole Lavallée is the incumbent here.
  • Sun 7 Jun - Montcalm, QC - Four-term Bloc M.P. Roger Gaudet is the incumbent in this riding.
This puts my current count at 1 Green, 1 Conservative, and 5 Bloc candidates (7 men vs. as yet no women, although that's about to change based on the Bloc's schedule). With the deadline coming up for the Conservative mail-in ballots on whether their own incumbents should face a nomination meeting, obviously their overall count is about to rise quite a bit too. The NDP posted a job for a Candidate Search co-ordinator, and the Liberals are presumably focused on formally electing their leader first. Meantime, however, there are still no nomination meetings reported in the Elections Canada database.

these fit into the category or just in case nominations , even with no immediate election it doesn't hurt to get some things done in advance . it will get a bit more interesting when the bloc nominate candidates in unheld ridings or ones where a bloc mp is retiring .

True, but in the lead-up to the last election, the Conservatives ensured that most of their incumbents got nominated right away. Which left them with a lot more time to concentrate on the unheld and vacant seats. It's a mark of organizational readiness, and the Bloc appear to be sending several signals now that they won't be caught off guard (this, and the fact that they appear to have stepped up their between-election fundraising from small donors).
