Validated by-election results available
I've also updated the first two "pundit queries" on the "Search the Database" page: (i) Nominations Progress in Seats with Retiring Incumbents no longer includes the by-election ridings, and (ii) Nominations Progress in Seats with First-time Incumbents now includes all the by-election ridings since the last general election (but still sorted by who won the seats in the last general election; it's going to take a bit more work to adjust it according to the current incumbent).

I would also like to add a very warm welcome to all the new readers who stopped by courtesy of Paul Wells' very kind referral the other day. Boy, he sure packs a punch traffic-wise!

Do you have any idea how long it generally takes them to release the poll by poll results?
Hi bbs,
My understanding from two stories in the papers the other day is that the Conservatives have now requested a recount in Vancouver Quadra. Thus, that would delay the release of the official results a bit (probably for all 4 ridings), and that release is the earliest we would see the poll-by-polls.
Alan Woods of the TO Star had a story a-ways back reporting that Elections Canada was *really* behind on a variety of things, because of all the elections and electoral legislation changes. I know they're behind in reviewing candidates' financial submissions (perhaps also related to the disputed interpretations of local vs. national advertising), and were not able to answer another friend's question about how many candidates per province were eligible for rebates (stay tuned, I've got that data coming myself later today).
So, I guess they're working as quickly as then can over there, but I'm sure it's all a bit overwhelming. To add to their workload, there could be another round of 4 by-elections this fall, unless the government falls before then, since Westmount-Ville Marie must be called by July 23, and there are or will be another 3 ridings vacant by then.
It took about three months after the 3 Québec by-elections were held for the official results to be posted, so I think it's reasonable to assume they won't be coming a lot faster this time, for all the reasons stated.
Oh, and I've just checked right now: the validated results for DMCR have been posted for a few days already (guess I'm falling down on the job, eh!). Will get them in later this afternoon.
Thanks for the question.
